Tree Dressing Day

Tree Dressing in Stoke Newington, London

"The piece I made for Clissold Park. I involved a class of seven year olds, from a local primary school, getting them to do a wonderful project on trees, looking at trees in the landscape, and what they mean to us all, looking at the support they provide in our lives and stuff like that. They produced some fabulous things, poems and paintings and I organised a little exhibition of their paintings in the Red Room at the cafe.

They were able to come down to the park, the day after I fitted the globe into the tree and they had such a wonderful day, decorating the tree and playing in the park, spontaneously building a sculpture of their own from bark and bits left from the felling of the tree. their teacher said, that when they were working on stuff for the tree project, their work improved tenfold! I loved it and so did they.

I'd like to see the tree continue, as a kind of live art site and get more artists to take up the challenge and make a piece for it." Elsa Godfrey, Dec 2004
