The Stour

Bow

This stream has a North and a South tributary. The main brook rises near Lattiford in Somerset (near Wincanton) and meets the Cale near Cale Bridge on Landshire Lane near Marnhull. Another joins it nearby, which has travelled from the area around Stalbridge, Henstridge and Templecombe.

For part of its length, the Bow forms the county boundary between Somerset and Dorset - notably on a bridge where the river is crossed by the A30.

Ekwall suggests that the name Bow might originate from the word meaning 'a bend in a river'
