The River Path
Totnes Water Festival
In 2004 the Devon Wildlife Trust (DWT) approached Common Ground about organising a Water Festival in Totnes as part of the Cycleau Dart Project, looking at the Dart catchment in the same way as we promoted the River Stour as a hydrological and geographical entity (see Confluence). Held at The Longmarsh, on the banks of the Dart (fifteen minutes' walk from the town centre), the day's activities began at low tide and continued until high tide. 55 exhibitors, from basket-makers, storytellers and local food producers to poets and conservation groups, attracted about 1,750 visitors. Boat trips and canoeing proved popular.
DWT organised a second Dart Water Festival which was held in September 2005.
