The River Path
Eaves Brook, Preston

In 2007, Lesley Cryer of Action Ribble Estuary contacted us with news of a project in an informal public green space in Preston, Lancashire. Lesley says "We co-ordinated the replacement of a vandalised wooden bridge with a lovely metal one which should be able to withstand unwanted attention. The project involved three primary schools in the area who helped a local artist to design the bridge. This was then manufactured by a local forge.
All the feedback from the community is really positive - everyone likes the bridge and is proud that the children have helped in a project that has enhanced the area.
The name of the brook (Eaves Brook) is also incorporated into the metalwork. People who have walked their dogs in the valley for up to 20 years have commented that although they had used the space for so long, they had not known the name of the brook until now. This simple act (inspired by your website years ago) has made people aware of the brook.
Although the bridge is lovely - without the name it is simply a bridge. The addition of the name has made it a bridge over Eaves Brook. It has been agreed that any other structures installed along the brook in the future plans for the linear park will also include the name Eaves Brook to raise awareness further."
