Parish Maps

The West Sussex Millennium Parish Maps Project

West Sussex took up the challenge of making new Parish Maps as one of many ways to celebrate the Millennium.

West Sussex County Council, through its Millennium Forum, appointed Kim Leslie of the County Record Office to promote the project. A county-wide network of map makers was born with some 87 groups joining.

66 of the resulting maps were exhibited at Worthing Museum and Art Gallery until February 2002, demonstrating enormous variety and revealing much local information.

Many maps have also been produced as posters and are for sale to residents and visitors. The originals are almost all kept in the villages which they represent, some on display in village halls, parish council offices, shops or parish churches, some - in smaller communities with no facilities for public display - residing with one of the contributors.

Here you can see some details of the maps and some examples of the kinds of local information included on them, as well as comments from some of the makers. You can also find out who to contact to buy copies.
