TANGMERE, West Sussex - made as part of the West Sussex Millennium Parish Maps Project. It is featured in the book A Sense of Place.
TANWORTH IN ARDEN, Warwickshire - murals.
TEFFONT, Wiltshire - a 5' x 5' felt textile map made by villagers with artist Julieann Worral Hood, to brighten up the village hall in 1994.
TEIGNMOUTH, Devon - a 'town maps project' resulted in a tapestry, watercolour, patchwork, and paint collage. See also Coombe Valley.
TENTERDEN, Kent - a map painted in 1996 by Betty Ellridge (who also worked on the map for Fetcham, Surrey) and displayed in the town hall.
TEST VALLEY, Hampshire - Around 70 villages contributed to the Test Valley Tapestry between 1984-94, involving over 12,000 people, and resulting in 19 panels.
TETCOTT and CLAWTON, Devon - two 4' x 3' painted maps made by Tetcott and Clawton Women's Institute group as part of Devon Federation of Women's Institutes 75th anniversary in 1995, one to go to each parish council.
THIRSK, North Yorkshire - four panels - one for each season - made between 1989 and 1992 by Thirsk Civic Society with textile artist Margaret Williams and around 300 local people. You can see the map and read more about its history here. See what local people have said about the map.

THRUSHELTON, Devon - an embroidery made by a parishioner in 1991.
THUNDRIDGE with HIGH CROSS and WADESMILL, Hertfordshire - A poster drawn and painted in 1993-95.
THURLASTON, Warwickshire - An embroidered map - double-bed sized - which was the winner of the Rugby Borough Council competition in 1991. It is kept in the village hall and was the basis of an xmas card in 1992.
TICKENHAM, Somerset - Two friezes, fabric montage made by the local school working with the village History Society, 1990.
TIMPERLEY, Greater Manchester - 6' x 4' community wall hanging made in 1992, showing Timperley past and present. Displayed in Timperley library.
TOCKHOLES, Blackburn, Lancashire - a mural made under the auspices of Lancashire Community Council.
TODDINGTON, Bedfordshire - A video project. This began with a game "Toddo", like Lotto, created by local school children, about the village. This was made into a teatowel and profits were used to fund the video, which took over three years to record, 1991-94.
TOFT, Cambridgeshire - Toft WI made a map in 1993, as their entry to Cambridgeshire WI's competition for a village wall hanging.
TOSTOCK, Suffolk - a map made in 1992.
TOTTERNHOE, Bedfordshire - A paper map, 1989.
TOTTON and ELING, Hampshire - a 10' x 6' embroidery initiated by the local historical society and involving many local people in an exploration of the past and present of the community, 1990-94.
TOW LAW, County Durham - a 9' x 6' acrylic on canvas map designed by local artist Romney Chaffer. Initiated by the local community group with schools and the local history society. It shows town life, agriculture, industry past and present, and is on display in the Community centre. It has inspired the creation of three murals showing 150 years of Tow Law.

THE TREGELLAS TAPESTRY, Cornwall - 50 panels make up an embroidered map of Cornwall showing history, wild life and culture, 1994.
TURNERS HILL, West Sussex - made as part of the West Sussex Millennium Parish Maps Project. It is featured in the book A Sense of Place.
TWYNING, Gloucestershire - an A1 watercolour map made in 1986 by a local (then) teenager to help raise funds for the church roof.
TYLER HILL, HACKINGTON and BLEAN, Kent - two maps made in the 1980s, one comprising 15 panels of fabric collage applique on hessian, and another drawn one.
UCKFIELD, East Sussex - a 52" square embroidered tapestry made in 1993 by Four Ways WI, and now housed in the Civic Centre.
ULVERSTON, Cumbria - Ulverston town map - a living tapestry of the town, its people and environment. It was put in a 'time capsule' with writings from pupils past and present from Ulverston's national school, 1992.
UNSTONE, Derbyshire - stained glass map, commissioned by Unstone Parish Council with Third Piper to commemorate 100 years of the council in 1995. Lead worker on the project was Rona Moody who devised it with the chair of Unstone Parish Council, Fred Hopkinson. It was made by various members of the community including a local joiner, a physicist, a dancer, a policewoman, a nurse and a retired teacher.
UPHILL, Somerset - By Uphill Primary School. Displayed in Woodspring Museum, 1990.
UPLYME, Devon - (1) one of the very first community Parish Maps, made in 1987, painted in inks and watercolour and issued as a poster. It is on display in the village hall. Proceeds from the poster (which has been reprinted several times) paid for the planting of a wild flower meadow, a village sign and helped towards the rebuilding of the village hall; (2) a 5' x 3.5' tapestry made in schools workshops in 1986-88.
UPPER BEEDING, West Sussex - a 44" x 60" watercolour map made as part of the West Sussex Millennium Parish Maps Project. Initiated by Beeding and Bramber Local History Society, the map was drawn by Dave Nightingale with calligraphy by Chris Carter. It is on display in the village hall. In 2001, the parish submitted a copy of its Parish Map to the Countryside Agency in its bid to have a greater proportion of its area included within the boundaries of the proposed South Downs National Park. It is featured in the book A Sense of Place.
UPTON, Notts - (1) a poster of village footpaths; (2) one of a series of maps made by a local artist of her own place and other Midland counties.
VERNHAM DEAN, Hampshire - a tapestry.
WADDINGTON and WEST BRADFORD, Lancashire - a multi-media model, photography and video project from 1987.
WADDON, London - a papier mache map made in 1993.
WALBERTON, West Sussex - a 36" x 49" watercolour map made as part of the West Sussex Millennium Parish Maps Project. It is kept in the village hall. One of the Five Villages. The map is featured in the book A Sense of Place.

WANBOROUGH, Wiltshire - an 8' x 4' textile map initiated by the parish council and a local textile artist Janine Brown, eventually around 150 people were involved and the work was done between 1994-95. It is kept in the village church.
WANDSWORTH, London - a photographic map made in workshops in 1987.
WARE, Hertfordshire - a 100cm x 70cm heritage map made with the Ware Civic Society in 1996.
WARMINSTER, Wilts - The Warminster Townscape comprises a 60" x 134" collage of paintings made in 1999 in celebration of the town. 400 people of all ages contributed, including all nine schools in the town. The resulting map is on permanent exhibition in Warminster Library. The project was co-ordinated by Kate Lynch and Sheila Toomey.
WARNINGCAMP, West Sussex - a 33" x 45" watercolour map made as part of the West Sussex Millennium Parish Maps Project and displayed in the Youth Hostel. It is featured in the book A Sense of Place. See what local people have said about the map.
WARTON, Lancashire - Three maps made between 1994 and 9: (1) A 36" x 25" poster made by Warton Art and Craft group for the centenary of parish councils. Most members over 60; (2) A tapestry showing buildings of Warton, made to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the Archbishop Hutton CofE Primary School; (3) A cathedral union quilt.
WASHINGBOROUGH, Lincolnshire - (1) An embroidered map made in 1993 by Washingborough Craft Group and housed in the Community Centre; (2) Information boards initiated by the parish council in 1995 to complement the embroidered map. Now on display outside in two places in the village.
WASHINGTON, West Sussex - made as part of the West Sussex Millennium Parish Maps Project. It is featured in the book A Sense of Place.
WATERS UPTON, Shropshire - a textile map made in 1991 showing footpaths and parish walks. It is housed in the village hall.
WAVERTREE, Merseyside - the 'Bodymap' project of 1988 featuring performance, writing and music.
WEEDON BEC, Northants - a painted poster made in 1991 by the Weedon Bec History Society which looks at pubs in the village historically.
WELFORD, Berkshire - Created by the Parish Council, this map has helped to raise awareness of Charles Ross Apple. Ross lived in Welford and is buried in the churchyard, 1996.
WELLESBOURNE, Warwickshire - an embroidered calico banner, 6' x 4', made as part of a WI project.
WELSHAMPTON, Shropshire - a three-part 'hooky & proggy' map started in 1996.
WELTON, Northants - a 2'5" square watercolour from 1991, housed in the local school.
WENHASTON, Suffolk - The village produced a map of the parish to celebrate the millennium. It can be viewed on-line on the village web-site.
WENNINGTON, Essex - Wennington Village Association have been planning a millennium map. Visit the village web-site for more information.

WESTON BY WELLAND, Northants - A fabric collage, 84" x 49", made in 1992 by children of the village and school leavers.
WEST TARRING, West Sussex - a 32" x 22" watercolour map made as part of the West Sussex Millennium Parish Maps Project. It was created by Ruby Nelson, who is also keeper of the resulting map. It is featured in the book A Sense of Place.
WHATLINGTON, East Sussex - an embroidered hanging made in 1988 for an exhibition at Michelham Priory organised by the East Sussex Federation of Womens Institutes.
WHEDDON CROSS, Somerset - Artist Julieann Worrall Hood worked with villagers to produce a large paper map for the village hall which was developed into a larger outdoor mosaic with the help of village children. It now adorns the exterior of the village public loos!
WHITCHURCH, Bristol - Poster £3.00 available from Whitchurch Parish Council. Painted on board, 6' x 4', it is displayed in the village hall, 1988.
WHITTLE LE WOODS, Lancashire - an A2 poster made for the centenary of parish councils in 1994, now housed in the local primary school. Revenue from sales of the printed poster were used to make a children's play area.

WIGAN, Lancs - produced as a Millennium project, originally by the local Soroptimists, then taken up by Wigan Council. There are 28 sections of the map, covering the entire Metropolitan Wigan area, and totalling 300 feet in all. The Map toured round the entire Metropolitan Borough in 2000, as part of the Mapping the Millennium project. Until recently, funding was not available for the display of the entire map. Now that it is, a project is well under way for the long-term display of the entire map, for the first time, in the History Shop, Wigan. The opening is scheduled for Easter 2003.
WILLINGALE, Essex - Local group Windows on Willingale initiated a Parish Map in 1996.
WILLINGHAM BY STOW, Lincolnshire - a 91" square map made from poplar leaves on cibachrome paper, 1986.
WILLOUGHBY, Warwickshire - a map drawn originally for the 'Domesday 1976' countryside survey, involving many members of the community in gathering information.
WILMINGTON, Kent - historical paper maps made in 1995.
WINGFIELD, Wiltshire - a wooden map in the shape of the parish made by the village school after an information gathering project, including research into field names. The village sawmill (since closed) provided the inspiration for the materials - veneers of locally-growing hardwoods.
WINGRAVE, Buckinghamshire - 12' by 3' collage by women in the village, displayed in the Community Centre, 1994. This has led to a field map and a history of the parish.
WINSHAM, Somerset - an 8' x 4' painted board made in 1989 and displayed in the village hall.
WINTERSLOW and FIRSDOWN, Wiltshire - made by the local WI in 1991 for a county federation competition, this 48" x 54" embroidered textile map shows roads and boundaries with buildings, wild life, flora and fauna. It is kept in Winterslow village hall.
WITECOTE, West Yorkshire - a 10' x 2' tapestry designed and made in 1992 by pupils of the local primary school with artist Julieann Worrall Hood, using wool, recycled rags, linen and cotton.
WITHYHAM, East Sussex - a map made in 1988 for an exhibition at Michelham Priory organised by the East Sussex Federation of Womens Institutes.
WOLSTON, Warwickshire - a 3' x 4' watercolour made in 1992, which is kept in the village hall. Prints of the map are sold in aid of the village school. The village hall also contains a Millennium embroidery which is made up of pictures of the village in different kinds of embroidery. It is in the shape of a rose window (with the pictures in the sections) and is set in a turning frame so that all sections can be viewed properly.
WONERSH with SHAMLEY GREEN and BLACKHEATH, Surrey - A watercolour, pen and ink and calligraphy map made in 1994 to celebrate the centenary of the parish council. Information on the past and present of the parish was gathered from local societies, schools and residents along with geologists and environmental wardens. WOODBURY, Devon - a 44" x 32" map covering the villages of Woodbury, Woodbury Salterton and Exton, emphasising them as part of the parish as a whole, while reflecting their individuality. Too much information was gathered to go onto the map, so a book was also produced.
WOODMANCOTE, Gloucestershire - paper and display panels of photos and drawings, including a tree survey, 1987.

WOODMANSTERNE, Surrey - a triptych painted by Diana Todd for the millennium in 2000, featuring local scenes, plants, and birds. It can be located in St Peter's Church.
WOOLBEDING and LINCH, West Sussex - a 41" x 31" watercolour, gouache and ink illustrated map made as part of the West Sussex Millennium Parish Maps Project. It is on display at Redford Village Hall. Proceeds from sales of copies go to the hall's upkeep fund. It is featured in the book A Sense of Place.
WORLINGTON, Devon - a 5'6" x 4'6" hanging in cross stitch made by a member of the local Women's Institute group as part of Devon Federation of Women's Institutes 75th anniversary in 1995.
WRANGLE, Lincolnshire - an A1 illustrated / painted map housed in the parish church, 1993-95.
WRESSEL, East Yorkshire - a collage displayed in the village hall, possibly dating from as early as 1978.
WRINGTON, Bristol - (1) A map with an environmental slant by the Environmental Management Unit, 1988; (2) Wrington Village Association involved many different people in the village, from artists, historians, 'village personalities' and the local school in making this. It resulted in an A2 poster which was printed along with a booklet featuring walks and excerpts from the material collected, 1991.
WRITTLE, Essex - The Writtle Archive (local history group) started work on a Parish Map in 1996.
WYMONDHAM, Norfolk - an A1 poster drawn and painted in 1993-94. Initiated by the Wymondham Heritage Society, this map shows the familiar, old and new, and the things which give character to the town, such as single trees. Whole streets have been drawn for inclusion.
YAPTON and FORD, West Sussex - a 33" x 48" watercolour map made as part of the West Sussex Millennium Parish Maps Project and kept in the village hall at Yapton. It is featured in the book A Sense of Place.
