Abbotsham to Aylesbeare
ABBOTSHAM, Devon - made by the local Women's Institute group as part of Devon Federation of Women's Institutes 75th anniversary in 1995. A 4' x 2' central painted map with important features added in cross-stitch.
ABBOTS LANGLEY, Hertfordshire - an A2 poster made for the centenary of the parish council in 1995 following publication of a local history book. The map was drawn and painted in watercolour by local artist David Fry and included information from local historians which had been gathered for the book.
ABBOTSWOOD, Bristol - paper mosaic made by Abbotswood Playgroup, 1990.
ALDENHAM and RADLETT, Hertfordshire - a 38" square poster painted in 1989.
ALDERWASLEY, Derbyshire - map made as part of an evening class programme.
ALDWICK, West Sussex - a 20" x 27" computer-assembled watercolour map made as part of the West Sussex Millennium Parish Maps Project. Displayed in the parish office, and featured in the book A Sense of Place. Some more details can be found here.

ALL SAINTS, Devon - made by the local Women's Institute group as part of Devon Federation of Women's Institutes 75th anniversary in 1995. This 44" x 34" map shows important buildings past and present, forms of employment, fields.
ALPHINGTON, Devon - made by the local Women's Institute group as part of Devon Federation of Women's Institutes 75th anniversary in 1995. This is a 41" x 30" embroidered cross stitch map.
ALSTONEFIELD, Staffordshire - a 3' x 2' illustration on paper made in 1987.
ALVESTON, Somerset - 2.14m x 1.4m. Painted showing all trees, hedges, fields and footpaths as a way of opening up the countryside, 1994.
AMBERLEY, West Sussex - a visitor's guide to the village drawn by children from Amberley CofE First School in 1992.
APULDRAM, West Sussex - a 16" x 23" computer-assembled collage of watercolours, oils and photographs made as part of the West Sussex Millennium Parish Maps Project. A copy is in the parish church. It is featured in the book A Sense of Place.
ARDINGLY, West Sussex - made as part of the West Sussex Millennium Parish Maps Project. It is featured in the book A Sense of Place.
ARNOS VALE, Bristol - Photos with text, 1990. The Association for the Preservation of Arnos Vale Cemetary continues to survey and research the project, listing over 120 historic graves. Bristol City Council is attempting to acquire the cemetary on behalf of the citizens.
ARRETON, Isle of Wight - produced a map in 1989.
ARUNDEL, West Sussex - a 38" x 50" computer-assembled collage of watercolour and photographs made as part of the West Sussex Millennium Parish Maps Project. Now on permanent display at Arundel library. It is featured in the book A Sense of Place.
ASH, Somerset - a paper map made in 1989.
ASHINGTON, West Sussex - a 55" x 41" needlework map made as part of the West Sussex Millennium Parish Maps Project. The new Community Centre will be its eventual home, when the building is completed. It is featured in the book A Sense of Place. See what local people have said about the map.
ASHLEY VALE, Bristol - 3 maps made when land owned by British Rail was saved from development. Seven community groups and schools were involved. Computer generated images.
ASHTON, Devon - a 3' x 4' embroidered tapestry, 1995.
ASHWATER, Devon - made by the local Women's Institute group as part of Devon Federation of Women's Institutes 75th anniversary in 1995. A 6' x 6' paper and photography map displayed in the village church.
ASTON, Hertfordshire - a spiral bound book 72 pages of A5 size. It is published by the Aston Village Society. Produced and edited by Brian Bostock with foreword by local historian Margaret Ashby and archological notes from Tony Rook BSc MPhil FSA MIFA. The book provides 12 circular walks with maps and descriptions. Local history notes are interspersed. A principal aim of this publication was to promote the use of footpaths and to that end the County council assisted with a grant.
ASTON BY STONE, Staffordshire - textitle map made in 1987 by local WI. Also a watercolour map. The local WI made a second map of Stone which is displayed in the Trentside Clinic.
ASTON CLINTON, Buckinghamshire - Map created 1999-2000
ATHERINGTON and UMBERLEIGH, Devon - made by the local Women's Institute group as part of Devon Federation of Women's Institutes 75th anniversary in 1995. A 48" x 30" painted map.
AVANLEY, Cheshire - textile map to make people aware of the boundary, then to record those things which people valued - from wedding ribbon to old steam trains to local animals, 1989-90. Led to other environmental projects, including trying to buy land to save from development, charting the different areas, and creating an orchard.
AVEBURY, Wiltshire - an historical poster painted in 1992.
AVENING, Gloucestershire - a leaflet drawn in 1995 showing six walks around the village, produced for the Gloucestershire Parish Paths Partnership.
AVETON GIFFORD, Devon - A poster made in 1992 with artist Mike Glanville to help villagers reclaim their village after the building of a bypass. You can see this map and read more about it here. Also, see what local people have said about the map.
AVON COMMUNITY COUNCIL PARISH MAPS PROJECT - over 30 maps produced, inc: Park School; Kingsfield School; North Common Play Group; Hanham History Group; Cadbury Heath History Group; Kingswood and Hanham Old People and People's Welfare Association; Cadbury Heath Youth Club; Merrywood Girls School, Pensford; Christchurch, Downend; Hinton Charterhouse. A booklet was made available in 1990.
AYLESBEARE, Devon - made by the local Parish Council and Women's Institute group as part of Devon Federation of Women's Institutes 75th anniversary in 1995 and the Aylesbeare WI group's 50th anniversary. Artist Pauline Mulligan produced this 18" x 14" watercolour map.
