This apple has a taste of aniseed rather than orange and is deliciously crisp and juicy when fresh. It was mid-wifed into existence by Mr Wipf, a head gardener, and the Rev. C. C. Ellison of Bracebridge, Lincs, who had 1,500 fruit trees in his garden in 1900. He is buried nearby in Boultham, where Apple Day will be held this year in his honour.
