Apple Day was celebrated in Bath at one of three trial Farmers’ Markets, the first in the country, which were followed by regular Farmer’s Markets in the city and elsewhere. 1997 saw an early appearance of the Longest Peel Competition (though national results were not kept until 2000).
Also to be seen on this page are Apple Days at Eggesford Gardens, and Cockington Court in Devon, as well as Neal’s Yard Dairy, Covent Garden, London (with particular apple varieties to taste and buy with the many different cheeses on offer).
The Big Apple is an established event among the villages of the Marcle Ridge in Herefordshire involving the many cidermakers and orchards in the area, museums, churches, pubs, cafes and shops.
